APC League Calls for Expulsion of Governor Alia Over Alleged Anti-Party Activities, Alliance with ADC

The All Progressives Congress (APC) League—a nationally-aligned body within Nigeria’s ruling party—has called for the immediate expulsion of Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, citing what it described as persistent anti-party activities, gross misconduct, and acts that threaten the cohesion and integrity of the APC both in Benue and at the national level.
Speaking at a press conference held in Abuja, the APC League, which prides itself as a non-factional, principled platform committed to the protection of party discipline and ideology, stated that its call followed extensive national consultations and a high-level review of Governor Alia’s recent conduct.
The League emphasized that its decision is not parochial but stems from Alia’s conspicuous absence at the APC National Summit held at the Banquet Hall of the Presidential Villa, where 21 of his APC governor colleagues unanimously endorsed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR. The group described the governor’s absence as “loud, deliberate, and politically symbolic,” characterizing it as a betrayal of the party’s collective aspiration and unity.
“Despite feeble attempts by his Chief Press Secretary to cover up this absence, no single image or credible evidence was presented to prove his presence at the event. His late appearance—just 10 minutes before the end of the summit—was a face-saving afterthought, reportedly prompted by calls from his appointees who recognized the political danger of his absence,” the League said.
Alleged Anti-Party Alliances and Internal Subversion
The APC League also accused Governor Alia of covertly aligning with opposition figures, including former Benue Governor Gabriel Suswam, and backing the African Democratic Congress (ADC) while systematically weakening the APC structure in Benue State.
According to the group, the Governor has repeatedly threatened to leave the APC, suggesting his spirit has long departed the party even as the National Working Committee (NWC) continues to condone his actions. The League warned that such tolerance has become a serious liability and risk to party stability ahead of the 2027 elections.
“His allies are visibly embedded in ADC activities, and he continues to shun reconciliation mechanisms initiated by the NWC to resolve the deepening divisions in Benue APC,” the statement read. “Governor Alia’s conduct reflects not just indiscipline but outright sabotage. It is not just Benue APC that is at stake, but the national integrity of our party.”
Institutional Disregard and Marginalization
Governor Alia was also accused of marginalizing the APC State Executive Committee in Benue, refusing to convene meetings, and excluding elected officials from key decisions. The League pointed out that these actions amount to a systematic dismantling of the party’s internal architecture, creating a crisis of legitimacy and trust.
“Let it be remembered that Governor Alia rode to power on the back of APC’s structure and the sacrifices of its loyal members. The same structure is now being treated with disdain under his leadership. This betrayal cannot be tolerated,” the APC League declared.
Backing Austin Agada, Urging NWC to Enforce Court Ruling
The League urged the NWC to enforce the High Court judgment delivered on November 28, 2024, by Justice Kume, which reaffirmed Austin Agada as the legitimate Chairman of the APC in Benue State.
“Under Austin Agada’s leadership, the party delivered unprecedented victories—securing the Presidency, Governorship, two Senatorial seats, 10 House of Representatives seats, and 22 State Assembly constituencies. His political strength and loyal following are indispensable to the party’s future in Benue,” the League stated.
A Time to Act: Expulsion Demanded
In conclusion, the APC League demanded that the NWC commence disciplinary proceedings in line with the APC Constitution, leading to the expulsion of Governor Alia.
“Our stand is principled, not political. Governor Alia’s persistent indiscipline, divisive behavior, and visible support for rival platforms are irreconcilable with the ideals of APC. We urge the NWC to act now and defend the party from further internal decay.”
The APC League reaffirmed its unwavering support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, the National Leadership of the APC, and all progressives working to preserve the future of the party.
