AANI MOURNS THE PASSING OF FORMER PRESIDENT MUHAMMADU BUHARI, GCFR

The Alumni Association of the National Institute (AANI) has expressed deep sorrow on the death of His Excellency, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR, former President in a hospital in London, United Kingdom on Sunday, 13th July, 2025.

In a statement, the President of AANI, Ambassador Emmanuel Obi Okafor, mni, conveyed the condolences of the National Executive Committee, and the entire AANI family, to the family of President Buhari, Katsina State Government and people, as well as the President and Commander in Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu,GCFR.
Ambassador Okafor described President Buhari as an embodiment of integrity, accountability and selfless leadership. He also prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the former President.
He enjoined all Nigerians to pray for the unity, peace and prosperity of our nation at this moment of grief. AANI further commended His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu,GCFR, for the dignified manner in which the Federal Government is handling this national tragedy.

President Muhammadu Buhari passed away in London on Saturday, 13th July 2025, following an illness. His passing is a great loss not only to Nigeria but to Africa and the global community.

President Buhari was a military Head of State (1984–1985) and held several Command positions in the Nigerian Army, which he joined in 1962. His legacy of fighting corruption and strengthening national security when he was a military Head of State remains etched in the memory of Nigerians. He later served as a democratically elected President for two terms (2015–2023).

AANI acknowledges his invaluable contributions to nation-building and governance and celebrates his disciplined and focused approach to leadership, which has left a lasting impact on Nigeria’s democratic journey.
